NASL denounces Brotherhood figure’s call for roadmap referendum, reconciliation

Several members of the National Alliance Supporting Legitimacy (NASL), which supports ex-President Mohamed Morsy’s reinstatement to the presidency, expressed rejection toward call by the Muslim Brotherhood figure Mohamed Ali Beshr to accept referendum on the roadmap, declared after Morsy’s ouster.

Ihab Sheeha, head of the Salafi Asala Party, said, “the alliance will not cede the reinstatement of Morsy to his position, only after demands would be reviewed.”

“We reject (the roadmap) or being put to referendum; as we will not recognize what happened on 30 June so how would we recognize it now after thousands of victims from Islamist movements were killed. He added that no reconciliation will take place without Morsy being reinstated.

Sources from the alliance referred to “conflicts that erupted after Beshr’s remarks” which included the referendum on the roadmap and reconciliation.

“Several leaders with the Jama’a al-Islmaiyah, parties of Asala and Labour believe the remarks represent the Brotherhood cession from the main demands called for by the alliance since its formations,” sources added.

Ashraf Badr Eddin, member of Freedom and Justice Party supreme body, said “any initiative at the current phase has no value. National reconciliation attempts will be a failure in light of authorities insistence on violence against the Brotherhood youth as well as ongoing arrest campaigns.”
