Transport Minister Ibrahim al-Demeiry said in a press statement after a cabinet meeting with the Investment Authority that the metro line will reach as far as Al-Remaya Square in Haram in merely four years.
The latest metro expansion has focused on the new third line, whose second phase opened on Wednesday, extending from Abbasseya to Heliopolis.
“It will reduce traffic surface traffic by 600,000 passengers per day,” said Ismail Nagdy, head of the National Authority for Tunnels. “It includes nine stations.”
This line's extension to the airport is projected to open in 2019.
