The Luxor camel race has begun and includes the participation of 80 riders from six Arab countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Sudan, Bahrain and the UAE.
The are also 18 riders from the Egyptian tribes of Al-Awazem, Belli, Al-Shararat and Al-Rashida in Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea Governorate and the New Valley Governorate.
The race consists of six runs, with 13 camels racing in each.
The Security Directorate built an eight-kilometer racing track and dispatched police and ambulances to protect the racers and spectators.
Very young camels race for four kilometers, young camels six kilometers and adult camels eight kilometers. Cups, certificates of appreciation and financial awards will be given to the winners.
Under Secretary of the Youth and Sports Ministry in Luxor, Medhat al-Sayed, said the race aims to promote Arab tourism and revive the heritage of the ancestors.
