Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said on Sunday that a comprehensive plan was devised in coordination with the armed forces to secure the upcoming presidential elections.
“The Egyptian people will cross to safety and achieve the steps of the roadmap,” he said at a press conference in Beheira.
“The impact of the recent terrorist incidents was very limited and did not affect the determination of the police force,” he said, explaining that those acts aim to create unrest, disrupt the elections, intimidate people and break the morale of the security apparatus. “They will not succeed.”
He also said that pre-emptive strikes against criminal hotbeds are not announced before all the terrorists involved are arrested so as to prevent them from escaping. The minister also called on citizens to report any strange movements or suspicious objects.
“Unfortunately, we cannot put advanced electronic devices on every inch of our territory to counter terrorist operations,” he said.
