Health minister: 16 dead, 781 injured during 30 June clashes

Sixteen people have been killed and 781 others wounded since early Sunday as clashes continued between supporters of Mohamed Morsy’s presidency and opponents demanding early presidential elections, the Health Ministry said Monday.

Clashes in Beni Suef, Alexandria, Kafr al-Sheikh and Fayoum witnessed the deaths of one person each, Health Minister Mohamed Mostafa Hamed announced in a press conference on Monday.

Three died in Assiut and nine more in Cairo, the minister said, confirming that one protester died in front of the Ettehadiya presidential palace and eight others outside the Muslim Brotherhood's besieged offices in Moqattam.

Hamed added that 182 of those injured remain in hospitals receiving treatment. He noted that 186 sustained injuries from buckshots, while the rest  had suffered from fainting, suffocation, broken bones and bruises.
