Hamas delegation, others arrive in Cairo for ceasefire talks

A delegation from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas arrived in Cairo Sunday coming from Doha to participate in negotiations over a ceasefire in Gaza.
 
Another Palestinian delegation formed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had arrived in Cairo Saturday to take part in the negotiation process. 
 
Security sources at Cairo Airport said the Hamas delegation was headed by Ezzat al-Rashq, a member of the movement's executive bureau, and included six other members. 
 
Former UK premier and Middle East Quartet envoy Tony Blair arrived in Cairo on Sunday in a quick visit where he is expected to meet with a number of officials to discuss the development of negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
 
William Burns, deputy US secretary of state, is scheduled to arrive in Cairo on a military plane to participate in talks.
 
Nearly 1,700 Palestinians and 60 Israeli soldiers have been killed since Israeli raids started on the Gaza Strip, ruled by Hamas.
 
Israel launched a military operation in Gaza under the pretext of responding to rockets fired by Hamas from Gaza.
 
Hamas had said that it rejects an Egyptian ceasefire initiative for not including the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons and opening the Rafah border with Egypt.
