FJP denounces arrest of former senior judge

The Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party denounced Tuesday the arrest of Mahmoud al-Khodeiry, former head of the legislation committee in the dissolved peoples assembly and head of the Alexandria Judges Club, on Monday.

The coup leaders cannot stand the existence of oppositionists outside prisons,” an FJP statement read.

The party called on national political forces to rally together to deter the coup which aims to return the “police state,” according to the statement.

“Continuing the series of abuse and prosecuting the honorable people shows that the coup leaders have lost their minds and became blinded by the lust for power,” the statement said.

“Fabricating charges for those who reject the coup strengthens the determination of Egyptians to break this brutal coup,” it added.

The statement concluded saying that national forces should rally together against restricting freedoms and oppression, to deter the coup, and to preserve the gains of the 25 January revoluion.

Alexandria police arrested Khodeiry Monday over charges of torturing 11 people inside a tourism company affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood one year and a half ago.
