Egypt's Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources received official approval from the Ethiopian government on holding a tripartite meeting for water ministers of the eastern Nile basin countries that would include Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan.
The meeting is set to take place in August at the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, to resume negotiations on the Renaissance Dam issue.
Talks had stopped six months ago.
Minister of Irrigation Hossam Moghazy said the joint statement by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn on the sidelines of the African Summit in Guinea will be the new basis for action.
"Egypt does not oppose the construction of the dam, but it seeks to put conditions so that it does not affect its share of the Nile water," Moghazy said. "Resolving the issue will serve as an example for solving conflicts in Africa and the world."
The meeting will tackle the specific timeline for negotiations and the mechanisms to carry out the final recommendations.
