Egypt has been unanimously chosen for the presidency of the Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee.
Diplomatic sources said this confirms the successful endeavors the Foreign Ministry has taken which brought about Egypt's non-permanent membership with the United Nations for 2016 and 2017.
They said the committee, which was formed after 9/11, is the United Nations' most important anit-terrorism committee, adding that Egypt was chosen for its expertise in fighting terrorism.
They added that all the permanent and non-permanent members voted for Egypt, and that the committee will be headed by Egypt's permanent delegate to the United Nations, Amr Abul Atta.
