Court rejects lawsuit challenging Muslim Brotherhood ban

Cairo Court of Appeals for Urgent Matters rejected for the second time a challenge by a Muslim Brotherhood lawyer demanding suspension of the ruling that banned the activities of the group and its NGO.

On 6 November, the court rejected another appeal and withheld its verdict.

The original ruling in September banned all activities by the Brotherhood and its NGO and any association affiliated to it or receive funds from it. It also ordered the seizing of all Brotherhood assets until an independent committee by cabinet is formed to investigate them before the court issues final verdict.

The cabinet then ordered the formation of the committee based on the court verdict.

Justice Minister Adel Abdel Hamid earlier decided to appoint Ezzat Khamis, his deputy, as chief of the committee.
