The 50-member committee tasked with amending the constitution held its first meeting on Sunday at the Shura Council.
Amr Moussa was chosen as the head chairman of the committee ahead of his competitor, Sameh Ashour, the Lawyers Syndicate chief.
Moussa was a former presidential candidate and was the former secretary general of the Arab League. While Ashour had the support of the revolution youth, Tamarod and Nasserists, Moussa said he decided to run for the position after consulting various political powers.
The committee will now determine the number of deputy heads.
Sources from the committee say two deputies will likely be chosen and will be followed by the selection of a technical committee to write the committee's bylaws and determine a mechanism for its work. The committee's work will be extended 60 days according to the constitutional declaration.
