The Court of Cassation, headed by Judge Magdy Aboul Ella, acquitted Wednesday Mubarak-era Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif of graft charges.
Nazif was accused of influence peddling and of using his position to illegally amass a large portion of money.
The Illicit Gains Authority referred Nazif to Cairo Criminal Court, which sentenced him on September 13, 2012 to three years in prison and a fine of over LE4.5 million. The court obliged him also to pay back to the state LE4.5 million.
Nazif challenged the ruling before the Court of Cassation on November 6, 2012. The challenge was accepted on June 13, 2013 and his retrial ordered for.
On July 22, 2015, the second court sentenced him to five years in prison and gave him a fine of over LE53 million. It obliged him to pay LE48.6 million to the state.
Nazif challenged the ruling before the Court of Cassation, which issued a final ruling acquitting him of the charges on Wednesday.
