Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated that history will not forget the plight of Palestine during a meeting with Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Cairo.
“We are meeting today under extremely sensitive circumstances due to what the people of Gaza are facing,” Sisi said at a press conference.
“This is a pivotal moment in history, as excessive force is being used to terrorize and collectively punish civilians in order to force them into displacement, while the international community watches helplessly and there is no international capacity or will to achieve justice or even the most basic concepts of humanity.”
“I discussed with the King of Bahrain the efforts of our two countries, or the joint Arab effort, to deal with this unsustainable situation in Gaza,” Sisi added.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has wide-ranging ramifications, warned the Egyptian president, stating that “Egypt has repeatedly warned not only about the direct political, security, and humanitarian consequences of this political war on our brothers in the occupied Palestinian territories, but also about what will inevitably lead to an expansion of the conflict and the inevitable extension of calls for escalation and revenge, plunging the region into a cycle of violence and counter-violence, whose circle will widen mercilessly to devour any hope of peace and a stable, secure life for the peoples of the region.”
“The region has witnessed over the past few months the far-reaching consequences of the continuation of this war, as its flames have spread to various parts of the region, and we are now facing a highly tense and dangerous regional situation that poses a real and serious threat to the security, stability, and future of our peoples,” he continued.
He wrapped up by emphasizing the urgency of finding a solution to the conflict and the need for regional cooperation: “I discussed in detail these worrying regional developments and visions for dealing with them with my brother His Majesty the King of Bahrain, under our agreement together on the need to preserve the security and stability of the region and its peoples against various threats and not to leave their fate to the will of the advocates of wars, as based on a common Arab security priority which we consider indivisible.”
