Egypt’s severe heat wave peaks, EMA warns to avoid direct sun exposure

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned that the severe heatwave gripping Egypt will hit its peak, growing very hot during the day across the country, and hot and humid at night.

Temperatures will be highest in southern Upper Egypt, where the apparent temperature will reach 49C during the day, and 43C in Cairo.

The EMA advised citizens to avoid direct sunlight, stay away from poorly ventilated rooms, drink plenty of water, avoid eating spicy foods, and wear light-colored hats to protect their heads.

The latest satellite images indicate the continued accumulation of thunderstorms and rain over central and southern Sinai, accompanied by rainfall of varying intensity and the possibility of flash floods in Sinai highlands.

Expected temperatures for Wednesday:

  • Matrouh: 34C
  • Alexandria: 36C
  • Cairo and Hurghada: 41C
  • Sharm El-Sheikh: 45C
  • Luxor: 48C
  • Aswan: 49C
