The British Ambassador to Cairo John Casson launched a branch of Malvern College in Egypt on Sunday evening.
Education is the key to Egypt's future, said Casson in a speech he delivered during the event, pointing out that Britain leads the world in the field of education.
"Tonight we are launching a world class new school with British roots and an Egyptian future, the latest in a long line of British investments in Egypt’s greatest resource– its young people," a statement published by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's official website quoted Casson as saying.
The college, which is scheduled to be inaugurated in 2016, will be the first top British college to operate in Egypt.
Cousin of Queen Elizabeth II Prince Michael of Kent, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, members of the British Parliament’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Egypt, British actress Liz Hurley, and singer Gabrielle attended the ceremony.
The event was organized by Khaled Azazy, Chairman and CEO of the Azazy International Group. Azazy International Group manages a number of independent schools in Egypt and the Future University.
