The Wafd Party elections are scheduled to be held on Friday, said Ahmed Ouda, assistant head of the party, explaining that 50 members of the 60-seat supreme body will be chosen. Ten more members will be then appointed by the party chairman.
Finally, the executive office members and the party secretary will be selected from the supreme body.
The candidates to the new supreme body also include the eight party members whose memberships have been suspended in coordination with Sayyed al-Badawy, chairman of the party.
Mohamed al-Messiry,one of the suspended party members, who had demanded the dismissal of the party chairman, said they have chosen Yassin Tag Eddin, Mohamed Garas, and Fouad Badrawy to negotiate with Badawy.
At the same time, Badrawy and Tag Eddin refused to be appointed to the supreme body, saying they would leave their chairs for younger party members, Messiry said on Thursday.
He stressed that the suspended members of the party must be granted full membership again, adding that the party leaders, Essam Shiha and Badrawy are committed to developing a plan with the secretary general of the party, Bahaa Abu Shaqa, for the implementation of what was discussed with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Messiry added that party members continue to collect signatures for the dismissal of Badawy.
