Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz has called for a dialogue between Egyptian and Saudi journalists, as well as media professionals, said Saudi ambassador to Cairo Ahmed Al-Qattan in a meeting with Egyptian editors-in-chief on Tuesday.
The king’s initiative has come after months of attacks on both countries' regimes by journalists from each side, due to differences over the crises in Syria and Yemen, and the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.
The tension began in April 2013 when supporters of the Brotherhood published in the Al-Ahram newspaper a statement by Salman bin Abdulaziz, then a crown prince, saying President Mohamed Morsi should be given a fair chance to rule. They believed this meant he would change his country’s position regarding the group.
