Jamaa al-Islamiya leader Mohsen Bakry was arrested on Saturday at Cairo International Airport while trying to flee to Malaysia via Oman.
His name has been included on watchlists.
Security sources at the airport said that Bakry, a teacher affiliated to the group, was arrested before boarding the plane heading to Muscat then to Malaysia. He was arrested according to request by a security authority over involvement in violence. Legal measures were taken before turning him into authorities.
Cairo Airport authorities earlier arrested the group leader of Alexandria called Refaat Mohamed Hassan, known as abu Assem, before traveling to Jordan.
