Interior Ministry official says Brotherhood used mercenaries to carry out terrorism in Egypt

Major General Hani Abdel Latif, Interior Ministry spokesperson, said on Sunday that the ministry carried out successful strikes against terrorism and that it is working on eradicating it completely.

"Terrorism in Egypt has become clearer for security services. It includes two types: the first is by extremists who worked before in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, and they are similar to mercenaries as they are hired as part of foreign agendas and schemes with the full support of international intelligence services," said Abdel Latif.

"These terrorists are the most dangerous. Their main role is to carry out huge terrorist operations, with the participation of the international Muslim Brotherhood organization either through funding or action," Abdel Latif added.

According to Abdel Latif, these terrorist elements work under different names from time to time like Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, Agnad Masr and others to create the perception that several entities are working against the country at once.

"The second type [of terrorism] is represented by the Muslim Brotherhood youth, who are directly responsible for violence in universities, protests on Fridays, burning police and military vehicles, making bombs and using them during protests or terrorist operations against police and citizens," said Abdel Latif, hinting at information and records about these elements arrested while committing violence.

He also added that the Muslim Brotherhood is currently escalating its violent actions as an alternative to terrorist operations that were scheduled to be carried out by the arrested extremists.

The spokesperson expected further operations by the Brotherhood until the end of the presidential elections.
