The Muslim Brotherhood issued directives to the members of its legal committee to take legal action against the current authorities, defend deposed President Mohamed Morsy and file a lawsuit challenging the integrity of the referendum, sources close to the internal organization said on Sunday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the sources added that Ibrahim Mounir, secretary general of the organization, is undertaking this task before international courts with the support of Qatar and Turkey.
“The referendum result and the legitimacy of the referendum was forged by the authorities who are taking the country into a dark tunnel,” said Ashraf Badr Eddin of the Freedom and Justice Party.
The international lawyers hired by the organization are the following: Tayyib Ali, a British lawyer of Pakistani origin, former British attorney general Lord Ken MacDonald, Michael Mansfield, a British lawyer specializing in human rights and South African lawyer and UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights John Dugard. MacDonald and Mansfield are both advisers to the Queen of England.
Ammar Ali Hassan, an expert in Islamic movements, said this is a desperate attempt by the Muslim Brotherhood to internationalize the issue. “They cannot win because Egypt did not sign the Convention of the International Criminal Court,” he said.
